FEEDBACK
Week 2
At least 2 websites are required to dicuss in the paper that involved the
themes that I've indentify in the matrix. Visual or graphic should be shown
more in the paper. 5.0 - 5.2 are expexted to complete before next week.
Week 3
1st paragraph of Intro/Background should be moved to 1.0 but suggested
to keep the summarized version in 5.1, word count doesn't matter
5.2 are expect to be done by next week.
A brief intro is needed for 5.2.1 and it will be discussed by each
confusing elements that have identified in matrix.
- 5.2.1 intro of each confusing elements
- 5.2.2 discuss about the impact by each confusing elements
- 5.2.3 what can minimize cognitive load
Week 4
5.2.1: Citation
5.2.2 onward: need to indicate citation, primary sources and secondary
sources to support the discussion
Conclusion will need to be done by next class
Refer back to my primary data in the begining-mid part of my discussion.
5.2.3 including color in the intro, state out its impact and importance.
Section 2, 3, 4
c&p from research paper but include a brief intro for each part
Week 6
Include 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0 in conclusion is necessarily
Be careful with tenses
Week 7
Shorten the abstrct
Recap the problem statement in the begining of the conclusion
To complete, limitation, project design recommendation, acknowledgement
Week 8 *ILW (Independent Learning Week)
Week 9
Both ideas is well presented, idea 1 will be a better fit for my
dissertation book as it is more compatible with my resrearch title -
Cognitive Load in UI/UX Design Optimizing User's Mental Effort.
Example of book cover until introduction will be expected.
*example of idea 2 should be prepared if the design of idea 1 is not
working as expected.
Week 10
try out more difference layout and design to explore my options
Week 11
overall design is good to proceed
Week 12 *Public Holiday (Deepavali)
Week 13
5 keywords is expected under introduction. I should be careful with
repeating myself as there are srtict words count limitation. For the
part of methodology should shed the light on the survey & interview
questions types and discuss on the important ones (may use the focused
question that I previously abstracted for my matrix). Findings and
discussion may write it based on my RO and RQ. Last but not least,
conclusion is good to go.
Week 14
REFLECTION
Experiences
Starting this dissertation path has been an incredibly educational
experience that has forced me to understand more about the complex field
of cognitive load and how it affects UI/UX design. The combination of
online surveys and interviews in a mixed-method research procedure
yielded insightful findings on the complicated link between design
complexity and user experiences. Deciphering the intricate relationships
between cognitive load and activities, productivity, and overall
satisfaction highlighted interface optimization's critical role in
improving user interactions. Understanding the value of clarity,
consistency, and simplicity in design highlighted the effectiveness of
user-centric methodologies. My understanding of the fine balance needed
to design digital interfaces that really prioritise user experiences has
grown as a result of navigating the difficulties and rewards of the
research process. My research and analytical abilities have improved as
a result of my dissertation, and it has also given me a strong desire to
create designs that are not just aesthetically pleasing but also
naturally intuitive and user-friendly.
Observations
During the course of doing research and composing my dissertation, I
have acquired significant understanding of the complex correlation
between cognitive load and user experience/user interface design. The
investigation of how various forms of cognitive load affect user effort,
task efficiency, and overall happiness has raise my consideration of the
crucial role that interface optimization plays in developing user
experiences. To get a full picture of the topic, I used a mixed-method
approach that included qualitative and quantitative methods, which
includes online surveys and interviews. The results highlight how
important it is to prioritize consistency, clarity, and simplicity in
design in order to maximise user fulfilment and productivity and
minimise discomfort. On top of that, the understanding of how users'
emotional responses to cognitive load during website interactions
reveals the significance of designing user-centric interfaces that
accommodate a range of cognitive capacities. Along the way, this journey
has broadened my understanding of UI/UX design and ingrained in me a
user-centric perspective that emphasises the constant search for the
best design practises to improve digital interactions and user
experiences.
Findings
I developed a deep grasp of the complex relationship between cognitive
load and UI/UX design throughout the course of doing research and
writing my dissertation. Determining how various loads affect user
effort, task effectiveness, and happiness in general revealed how
important interface optimisation is in determining how users interact
with a system. Combining quantitative survey data with qualitative
interview insights gave rise to a thorough understanding of the ways in
which design complexity affects user pleasure. The investigation of the
effects of age and gender on cognitive load gave the quantitative
results more depth. The importance of simplicity, consistency, and
clarity in reducing problems like clutter and confusion and eventually
raising user satisfaction and productivity is among the most important
lessons learned. Furthermore, the understanding of how much cognitive
load affects users' emotional moods emphasises how important it is for
designers to put user-centric design first and create interfaces that
suit users' cognitive capacities. I now have a profound awareness for
how psychological aspects and design principles interact, which
highlights the ongoing effort to create digital environments that put
user enjoyment, usability, and meaningful interactions first.
